My teaching draws from my experience as a student, player, and composer.
Among the many other areas of focus, these are the main things I try to emphasize to my students.

• Beginners through Intermediate/ Advanced: All levels of players are welcome.
• Tenor, Alto, and Soprano Saxophones
• Jazz Styles, Phrasing, and Jazz Theory
• Jazz Improvisation- Learn how to 'solo' and express yourself musically off the top of your head.
• Sight Reading- Jazz and Classical.  Learn tricks that will help you play it right the first time.
• Learn the roles of your instrument in both large (Big Band) and small ensembles (combos)
• Study saxophone masters through recordings and transcriptions
• Saxophone technique: Learn things about what your instrument can do that others can't.
• Arranging and Composing: Give standard tunes your own personal touch and create your own music.

About my teaching background:
 

My musical teaching experiences include teaching university improvisation courses and ensembles, directing a high school jazz program, private and group saxophone classes at a music camp, clinics for junior high and high school jazz bands and combos, doing demonstrations and presentations for elementary students and hearing-impaired students, and teaching privately both in a music store studio and independendtly.  I have been teaching private saxophone lessons for seven years.  My students have ranged from age 10 to age 50 and up, and I have taught students from many different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, students who are learning from scratch, and students who have been playing for years.  I am ready and willing to share any insight I have that might enrich somebody's interests and abilities to communicate through music.
