Description
Written during the early days of the 2020 Shelter In Place/Quarantine time, this melody and etude were conceived as a way of saying goodbye to all the things we thought we were going to do that year, with a bit of humor and hope. Inspired by the harmony of Chick Corea, McCoy Tyner, etc.
“And Now? Not.” is a “Sus blues” in G Mixolydian, with a turnaround using cycles in minor 3rd’s, and is a great workout using quartal and pentatonic ideas, various intervallic shapes, and altered dominant functions, while focusing on motivic development over suspended chords. The lines feature many unexpected twists and turns that are fun to shed, and the changes are just a lot of fun to blow on.
Purchase includes a demo play along track with saxophone and flute, a track with just saxophone, flute, and click, as well as backing tracks at 120, 180, 200, and 220 bpm.
